I only found this out because of a contest for $1111 on fa was going around and she commented in it with a link to a journal she posted on her DA page.
WHO: Wonderfullyg
WHERE:
http://www.furaffinity.net/user/wonderfullyg/ Her main account
She is also found on these sites
https://inkbunny.net/WonderfullyG
http://wonderfully-gorgeous.deviantart.com/
https://www.weasyl.com/profile/wonderfullyg
WHAT: WonderfullyG has been tracing art for some time. Most of them are just traced from google images and uploaded on her websites as Preposes or YCH auctions.
WHEN: In april I discovered she was tracing art and selling it to people (Which I will link below). I submited a report ticket to FA but as usual they did nothing. A few months ago she was tracing an artists canine face http://www.furaffinity.net/view/9803068/ . I contacted the artist whom brought up this issue with wonderfullyG. The artist told me that wonderfullyg claimed she did not trace (which with image overlay proved that was a lie). The artist warned her not to trace her art again . She DID take down all the art she sold with those faces so I unfortunately do not have any examples. Currently she is selling halloween preposes traced from google costumes.
PROOF: Fist I'll put the pictures of the art I fount in april. Below are all the ones she has sold to people.
WARNING! ALL THE LINKS BELOW ARE NSFW!! I'm using dropbox links in case the images are deleted from FA.
also please ignore the search words in the google search box. I was looking for the other pictures lol.

They are repedative but I thought they are nessicary to see the extent of how many she sold of just two traces.

I didn't bother searching for the other halloween costumes. I figured two examples are good enough.
I just thought everyone should know about this. Personally as an artist I am absolutely offended by what this girl is doing. She was warned once by someone and clearly hasn't learned her lesson. I believe most of her gallery is traced art. I just haven't put forth the time to bother looking for the originals. Please beware if you bid/commission or buy from her.

Advice needed for pose(c)/Trademark?
Feb. 6th, 2013 09:28 pm![[identity profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/openid.png)
I went searching AB and google and couldn't find any good citations of legal standing on if poses and "image concepts" are legally bound as are say trademarked characters or artists legal rights to their art and came up dry on both.
Long story short, I had a commissioner today note me on FA stating someone noticed the pose reference picture that we used on one of their commissions from me. Which would be fine by all means, except this person went on to state I was ripping their friend's art off and it was illegal to use their friends picture as a pose reference and concept for their commission and was pointing out that they would be infuriated if someone did that to them. (Commissioner feigned not knowing about anything on the reference for fear of a drama storm, which is fine by me. I also didn't reply to this person because I wanted to be 110% sure in what I tell them is backed up law and not also start unnecessary drama.) I've also added a link back to the original image we used for the commission pose reference in my fa gallery.
In short, my questions would be, is it ok to reference other artist's art for pose reference whether in personal art or commissioned art if the commissioner requests it? Should we link back to the picture(s) we referenced just the pose from? Are poses and or "concepts of the image" legal to use as reference or do we need to ask the artists permission first?
(Clarification of "concept of image" I'm speaking of would be, a person skate boarding, an android women kissing someone, two characters in a staring look, ect as a few examples off the top of my head right now.)
Thanks for your time.
*EDIT* I wanted to point out, that I think everyone has been looking at the wrong submission. I have an idea of which one you are looking at and have credited back to the original reference. And will be doing so from now on. I appreciate all the feed back and honestly had no idea had to reference back to what pictures I was using for poses. I shall do this from now on. I'll also be adding in my tos about commissioners and referencing poses ect. The submission I am talking about was done middle I think of last year so you would have to do some digging to find that one. And I've already referenced back to that pose on it.
I would rather not post a link to the image in question in public for fear of naming my commissioner without their permission. If anyone would like to see the two images, please message me privately and I can link to them for you. Thanks again for your help!

So. I entered a contest on a deviantart.com which was based around the Fullmetal Alchemist character, Hohenheim. The first place contest winner was determined, but it was a three way tie between second and third place. I was one of the three.
Here are the two entries I was competing with:
1. Entry 1
2. Entry 2
Anyway, I soon got a post on facebook from the admin of the group who was hosting the contest. She said that someone evidently reported that one of the contestants had cheated by tracing the image! That person was disqualified without any doubts or hesitation.
Me and some friends were goofing off when I told them that one of the entries had traced artwork. So, jokingly, I started to examine entry 2 for any tracing as well. It turns out... It was also influence to copying. I had used an image in my artwork for reference for how the character looked, and I thought it looked suspiciously like the reference used in my image. Well it turns out, entry 2 had traced the very reference I used.
My Reference
Entry 2
Here's a direct comparison I made:
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7278/74991
Anyway! I decided to report this... I was already confirmed third place, which was basically a single prize artist so I was happy since third and second place were the same prize and first place had already been determined. I was happy with being third! But I wasn't happy that this artist was cheating someone else out of a prize which otherwise could be given to someone who had a completely original work.
So. I did. And this was the conversation I had between the admin in charge, (I also included the original facebook post that told me there was cheating going on in the first place.)
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7108/75042
The admin ultimately decided to ask the entry artist if he traced...to which he replied that he only used it as reference... Tell me--if someone was going to ask a cheater if they cheated--what would he say if a prize and his reputation was on the line?
Anyway... I'm not sure what to do... I'm just confused and feeling strange about the entire thing... Any advice would be helpful. Thank you!

I was told to post this on here by a member of the Art Theft community. Recently, it’s been brought to my attention that a certain FA/DA user traces/greatly copies Jeremy Bernal’s artwork. Normally I wouldn’t be taking it to this level, but instead of giving credit to the original artist like I kindly ask, they go on a rage, delete all of their FA gallery, and become instantly hostile—her sister and her. She tried to lie and say “they were sketches from long ago” even though the ones that line up exactly are from 2010+. Even going so far as to write slander about me that I steal artwork, when none of my gallery has stolen art.

Drago Art, Dawn Donald
Jan. 7th, 2012 10:08 pm![[identity profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/openid.png)
WHERE: DeviantART.com and DragoArt.com
WHAT: Dawn Donald, famous authoress of the tutorial website DragoArt.com, has been revealed to be a tracer. I'm not sure if she has been posted here yet, but i did an hour-long sweep of the community before posting and i didn't see anything.
WHEN: The majority of her tracings of her tutorials happened before 2010
PROOF: Here is a website review: http://www.helium.com/items/2269038-website-review-dragoartcom
A journal deleted by the author about her tracings and showing overlays: http://img805.imageshack.us/img805/8526/neondragonondeviantart0.png
EXPLAIN: one of my friends one day posted me a link to their argument against her http://comments.deviantart.com/1/271510684/2323496833 Pointing out that this Dawn Donald, DragoArt @ dA, traces. Later that day she noted NeonDragon about their similar names, which led to the journal posted above. Dawn threatened NeonDragon with a lawsuit, under the reasoning that she was "slandering her name and character", when in fact that Dawn had copied Neon's tutorial style in the first place.
Earlier today, i was visiting the site of PortConMaine to check the dates for a family member when i saw that she was going to be a guest there. I immediately emailed the staff and i am awaiting their reply. She also does commissions, and i suggest deffo NOT commissioning her, although not all her recent work has been traced, just the majority. She is immature and annoying to communicate with.
Rafflone - Tracing/Heavy Reffing

EXPLAIN: As a customer of many avatar builders on Second Life, I was acutely aware that something was "off" with Rafflone's art. Once I saw an overlay, however, I was stunned. This was several months ago and I wanted to see if any of her customers or friends would come forward, or if her style would change at all. Unfortunately, I'm still seeing more of the same. I mean no ill will towards the artist, but this crutch will do nothing but hinder them in the long run and is taking a lot of creative license from the avatar creators.

EXPLAIN: Again, I was asked to post this here by several people after compiling multiple instances of her tracing of recent. As is evidenced, her anatomy flipflops from really well done, to filled with errors. If anyone can provide originals for some of the suspected traces, it'd be appreciated as well. NO ONE improves that greatly in a five month period, drawing as rarely as she does. I don't think everything she uploads/draws is traced, but much of it is.
Edit: Here's some more overlays with varying opacity's to give a clearer idea of where the lines are a perfect match.

Hers : Was removed. Will see about putting up the copy I screenshotted
Original by Hitomi Hasegawa : http://www.nattoli.net/art/879/nia-and-simon-happily-ever-after
Hers : http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6777012/
Original by Akata Itsuki : http://www.nattoli.net/art/440/akata-itsukis-sword-girl
I am not going to do over lays seeing as how it is very apparent of the copying.
She has posted both of these to her Facebook as well and After finding the Sword Girl one I left a comment on the picture saying "Very nice retrace and recolor. Might be a good idea to give credit to the original artist though." After that I was unfriended and blocked. That night I talked to her on Yahoo Messenger and she told me that it was her roommate that had posted it up and a "pet" that had made it for her.
Now the "Nia and Simon" one. I saw her making this one at Fur Fright, though It was mostly done and I didn't get a good look at it. Just today did I find the original after looking for the Sword Girl.
I also went onto her FA page and went to leave a comment on one of her fursuit picture only to find out I have been added to her block list.
EDIT: I will be talking to her about both of these and see if she finally confesses. Will post my results.
EDIT #2 : She took down the "Nia and Simon" one after I am guessing a few posts made about her tracing. Did not get a chance to see them for myself.
EDIT #3 : She has said that Sword Girl was a gift and given a name along with it. As for "Nia and Simon" she has said that the original was given to her by someone who wanted a commission and was asked to trace over it.
EDIT #4 : After a long talk with Ravi, she has promised never to let something like this happen again and will do research on any pictures she is given and will seek out the original artist to get permission.

Hers: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6502794/
While she may have cited her reference in this pic, there's apparently been some controversy surrounding it. Rumor being, she never cited it until she was called out for tracing it. I've heard this from several people, but sadly I can't prove if it's true or not.
***UPDATE*** (Sat, Nov 5th, 2011) - Dipper has made a public apology on her FA account seen here: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/2880360
And with that, I have accepted her apology for tracing my work. I believe she's learned from this whole experience and won't turn back to tracing or taking shortcuts again. Whether her apology really is legitimate or not, the important part is she won't be foolish enough to rip people off again, especially now that people are being weary and watchful over her gallery. I didn't mean for this thing to blow up as big as it did, but I felt it was my responsibility to bring all of this to everyone's attention.
EXPLAIN: A concerned user had notified me of a commission Dipper had uploaded to FurAffinity. They said it looked like a trace of a livestream doodle I had done for a friend some time ago. I was skeptical until I saw the over-lay (shown in Example1). This is a screenshot of the full description she included in the submission: http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b215/friedmilk/gwiibear_commission.jpg
Nowhere did she even credit me. After some word had spread about her trace, she was quick to delete every comment left on her FA account regarding this issue.
Example 2 was presented by someone who read about the news of Dipper's tracing. Their comment was:
"It got me wondering about my partner's unfinished commissions with her (of which the WIPs have been deleted now apparently?)"
Her note to me, including my disappointed response: http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b215/friedmilk/dippernote1.jpg
Her reply: http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b215/friedmilk/dippernote2.jpg
...Which I didn't even reply to, because I had no words.
Her last note: http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b215/friedmilk/dippernote3.jpg
She mentions an artist with an "N" name because, according to my husband, she had noted him explaining that she traced because her commissioner, gwiibear, specifically requested she copy one of the artist's drawings. She refused to do that, but I don't know what made me the exception. I will have screenshots of these notes as soon as my husband gets free time to upload them.
All of this has made me feel rather stupid and gullible for taking part in one of Dipper's own charity auctions (Shaytalis paid her $100 for winning my slot, which is no small amount). I actually felt sorry for her. She seemed to be someone with the worst luck in the world, but at this point I no longer feel sorry for her about anything.
If she's as emotionally flustered as she claims to be, she probably shouldn't be taking on commissions if it's affecting her business practices like this (unless her commissioners enjoy being lied to and ripped off).
I had considered posting this to art_theft, but felt it more fitting to post here considering she's been doing this for commission money. Dipper is an artist I really liked until today. I may be more sore about this than others since it's my art she's been stealing, but what she's done is still rather messed up.

And here is an overlay: http://www.star-soup.com/images/etc/juindalo-overlay.png
(NSFW)
EXPLAIN:
Just to be clear, I didn't commission him or anything. I just found him through the favorites of other people who had been watching me.
I saw this image: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6527410 (NSFW) and noticed that pose #3 was vaguely familiar. So I looked on my favorite reference website, and there it was.
Posemaniacs is an amazing art reference website filled with all sorts of poses from many angles. And you can click-drag across each pose to rotate it. I use it frequently to reference some poses/angles, or to get some inspiration if I have none. It's an awesome tool.
But this guy isn't just referencing, he's straight-up tracing. As you can see from the overlay, #2-4 are traces. #5 has some changes, so it's not completely a trace. I don't recognize pose #1, so it's possible that he did it himself.
I poked around in his gallery, and nothing else really stuck out for me, but I kind of have the mentality of if someone has one traced image in their gallery, it's possible that there may be more. But, a good portion of it is porn, and good luck trying to find those specific pictures. XD
I wasn't sure if this would be better here, or in

Feel free to quote copyright laws, court decisions, link to (in)famous artists, and describe your own use (or non-use) of tracing. Share whether you'd commission someone who traces, and why or why not.
=============================================
The reasoning for this post is that almost every post about an artist tracing tends to devolve into a back-and-forth of "tracing is good", "no, it's cheating".
Therefore, we mods decided to have a general discussion about it, where everyone can share their viewpoints on the matter.
After this date, this specific topic will no longer be allowed in any post reporting an artist for tracing. We will freeze any threads that start discussing this and redirect them to this post. This is to help the posts stay on topic (whether the person is tracing), not whether tracing is good or bad.
