Hey! So here is the issue:
I am in the process of trading a design (mine) for an artist's art (their's). I'm not sure this matters but the artist in question approached me about the trade.
They offered more than one piece for the design in question
The trade started back at the end of December (26th)
They have completed three pieces up to this point (which is less than half)
The last time I heard from them in February (Febuary 10th) when they delivered on piece to me.
Now I haven't been able to get any contact back from them.
I contacted them to get an update (since it has been awhile and I need to provide some updated reference as my pages have moved) at the start of May (7th), unread, no reply
A week ago (May 22nd) I reached out to them on Toyhouse, with no reply despite logging into their account. My note remains unread.

At this point it appears to me they are just avoiding me and other customers. At least one other customer left a shout about an unread note about a commission and other user commenting on a submission asking their to look at her notes. At least four people have asked for the artist to update their public to-do list as it is missing many orders. I just thought I would mention, our trade from December is not located anywhere on their current to-do list. So I have zero information about where my trade is at in the queue.
Their last public update was March 31st, about struggling with some real life issues. They last posted art on May 6th. While I understand the artist may have other real world issues going on, without any form of contact/information I am only left to assume I am being ignored.

What should I do? We never agreed on a deadline, but I don't want to be in limbo forever. Their TOS states several times to be patient with them and to not contact them about updates... but the lack of contact is extremely concerning for me.
Is it right for me to cancel this trade? I don't really want to pay for the work I've received (since the lack of contact isn't my fault). I understand I would relinquish the rights I have to the art. I'm not looking for free art.
If do I do cancel how long should I wait?
I just don't want to wait forever for this trade when I get can't any sort of responce back, and I don't want to reward this behavior with money.

WHAT: Design trade

WHEN: Feb. 4th 2017 - Present

EXPLAIN: Feb. 4th (or possibly 3rd, I can't remember), user emkhe makes a now-deleted journal calling for design trades. I really enjoy designing characters so I replied not long after it went up and I just happened to see it. Unfortunately the journal was deleted fairly quickly afterwards, so I don't have a cap of it.

Feb. 4th - emkhe notes me not long after my comment confirming the trade. I respond telling them what I would like and ask them what they would like in return.

Feb. 11th - I hadn't heard back from them so I send another note, just in case they had missed the previous note.

March 4th - A month later, after I had assumed they were no longer interested, they finally replied, telling me what they would like from me for my half. I respond, telling them I was moving but would be back soon.

March 14th - I deliver my half of the trade. Link to design. Note is still unread as of this writing.

March 19th - Having delivered a design and still not heard back, I send another note checking in. Note is still unread as of this writing.

April 1st - I find through their adoptables stash link that they have a deviantart, where they are active uploading art and responding to comments. I leave a shout asking them to reply to my note on FA.

Despite them being around and active, I have not gotten a reply. I've put work into a design (even if they refuse to open the note and look at it), but I haven't been able to get a response from them since March 4th. I don't know how they are with commissions, but I certainly can't recommend trading with them as of now.

I will wait another week or two and then likely put the design up for sale. I'm quite disappointed, as I was really looking forward to seeing what they would come up with; I've always wanted a junco character, they're my favourite birds.

EDIT: After seeing them upload more art but still not respond to me, I sent one final note informing them I consider the trade canceled and that the design was going up for sale. I'll update if I ever hear anything back.

PROBABLY LAST EDIT: I thought to check my outbox at some point after sending the trade cancellation note and it looks like they've finally been read. Still no response however, and I doubt I'll ever receive one.

I did some trades in July, custom made tails for anime goods.

Of the 5 trades shipping has gone arry in both ways.

One person's anime item has not come yet, I still have their tail as I am wating for their half to arrive, they are within the USA.

In the other case their part of the trade arrived and I mailed thier tail, it still has not arrived, this tail was heading from the USA to Germany.

And no, I do not having tracking for the lost tail, like a ditz I seem to have lost that ONE reciept out of the huge pile I do have.

So. um. How do I proceed? To start I was going to give both items a bit more time to arrive, like 1 more month.
With the tail that seems lost I assume I either need to get claim money and pay them for the anime item, or make another tail.
But what about the other? Do I offer to sell them the tail?

So, I'll try to keep this brief: I'm asking for advice on an art-trade.

I was approached by a user at the beginning of February to trade an adoptable-design that I had in my gallery for some art that they would make in exchange. I initially agreed to the trade because the design had been sitting in my gallery for a while and the user seemed very enthusiastic about using the character.

However, it's been several months now and the promised piece of art has not yet been delivered. Now, seeing as this was just a trade, I've sent a note asking about how it was coming along, but I wasn't too fussed about it being finished by a certain deadline as I can understand life can throw curveballs. However, both times that I've checked in throughout the months I've been waiting, they've told me they lost all info related to the trade and I've had to re-send it twice now. Again: I wouldn't be to fussed about this, if it weren't for some troubling entries I've read on A_B here in the meantime.

They have been nothing but friendly to me, but the A_B-entries don't sit well with me. So what I'm now wondering is: is there a way to cancel the trade (as they haven't delivered the art, nor used the character yet) without it blowing up in my face? Should I trust that they'll eventually finish the art or (worst-case) just eat the loss and chalk this up as a leason learnt?

No names will be mentioned yet because I still have hope, and I'm positive that the artist will come through, but I'm just slightly concerned about how long this trade has been dragged out.
We initiated the trade at the beginning of May 2014, I was originally interested in a pair of pre-made handpaws that were being sold, and the artist asked about trading for a custom hoodie. Since the price of the hoodie was more than that of the paws, we agreed on a pair of sleeves and a fairly simple tail from them as well.
I finished my part around the end of June. I've messaged them once or twice every few months just to check in, but they never actually messaged me first to give me updates. Response time has been decent. The artist has gone through a lot over that period of time (moving, technical difficulties, etc.) which I completely understand because I've been through all of that myself, but as a fursuit part crafter myself I know that it really shouldn't take more than two weeks to make this tail and sleeves, and since the hard part (the gloves) are already finished I'm honestly not terribly sure why it's taken 9 months.
I never gave them a deadline because I'm okay with waiting, and I know they have other commissions ahead of me. The thing that concerned me most I suppose was that they just opened more commission slots and don't have a public queue listed anywhere, so I have no idea how much longer I'll have to wait.
If I could get some advice as to what to do, that would be fantastic. Should I wait it out longer? Should I set a stern deadline? I feel like a lot of times trades take a lot longer than this and I really don't want to rush the artist because I'm sure they have things going on that prevents them from being able to finish it right away.
I'm pretty wishy-washy so I'm terribly sorry if this was difficult to read haha.

WHO: Rurouna/Skinnedwulf

WHERE: http://rurouna.deviantart.com/ http://skinnedwulf.deviantart.com/ http://www.furaffinity.net/user/rurouna/

WHAT: Traditional media art trade of our characters. I made my half quickly, but she still hasn't shown me even a simple sketch of her half and it's been a long time.

WHEN: Trade details discussed in August 2012, I posted my half to DA in 11th of August, 2012.

PROOF: I think I posted a journal where I asked if anyone was interested in trades, Rurouna answered to it and I then noted her. The journal has since been removed but I've got some other evidence.
Our first conversation: https://imageshack.com/i/pa2sMi0Pp
My half: http://naravox.deviantart.com/art/Rurouna-320534981
After some time I noted her taxidermy account: https://imageshack.com/i/ipCvldKqp
Again, after another lenghty wait I messaged her again: https://imageshack.com/i/idDepjOxp
She hasn't replied to me anymore and has deactivated the Skinnedwulf account.

EXPLAIN: So yeah, in August 2012 we agreed to do a trade, I finished and posted mine a few days later. So far I haven't received their half, only empty promises that the piece is either almost done or done, ready to be scanned or ready to be mailed and yet I never see it. During these years I have contacted her maybe once or twice more about this issue than what you can see in the proof section, but can no longer find those messages. I never wanted to sound demanding or too pushy. However I'm done with waiting now. It would have been nice to get an honest response that the trade ain't gonna be done due to reason X, but instead she kept promising me she's gonna scan or mail it as soon as possible. I honestly don't believe she ever drew it.

Hello!

So A while back I was doing trades, where I was making fursuit parts, for computer parts in return.
In the agreement for the items (If they had them already), I would make the  item up until about 85% done, then they would ship the parts to me. (then I finish and ship to them)

This way I wasn't getting nothing for my work.

However one of the trades, for some feet paws and a tail, keeps delaying their end of the trade.
They told me they had the parts, and had them in a box and ready.
Well... I have their tail done, and their feet just need the finishing touches. But it's been delayed for... a Couple months now.

The whole point of this was to build a computer before my laptop died.
And with the constant delays (we bought a new w/d, we went to an amusement park, we took a vacation to another state) this is becoming a moot point, especially with PFDs (permanent fund dividends, an Alaskan thing) coming up.
I wanted to do this so people who can't afford parts, but have computer stuff lying around, could get some as well.

I do shipping for my job, I ship airplane models, rcs, etc. The last excuse I got was, "Shipping is too expensive"
Um... I can ship a whole rc Airplane for under $20
Not to mention the $40 out of pocket for pawpads

I'm paying shipping on my half of the trade.

I'm just wonder if by this point It would be best to cancel the trade and just sell the paws..

I'm in a situation where some years ago I agreed to do a trade with another artist - in fact, I believe I've posted about this before here. Said artist is well known in community, so I would rather not name names, even though at this point they've blown me off twice about this. :/ I would really like to give them one last chance to make right before I call them out - but that's not the point of why I'm posting.

The second time I approached the artist about why they'd not finished their part of the trade, which we agreed to do and I completed my half of on the same day, July 24 2010. Said trade item was delivered to the artist by hand at the following FWA, during which they mentioned that they've just not had time to do their half. Between all of that time, said artist had taken numerous commissions - more than I could even begin to count.

Said artist continues to take tons of commissions. Again, more than I could even begin to count. The last time I inquired about when they might finish my part of the trade, the artist mentioned that they might like to just pay me for the value of the ACEO, but I suggested that I would be pleased to settle for just a sketch, even though our trade agreement was for a full color ACEO. The artist agreed to this. This was on May 16, 2013. Since this time, the artist has continued to produce tons of art - sketches, finished work, you name it, they've done it.

At this point, I am preparing to ask the artist to just pay me for the value of the ACEO becuase I'm tired of waiting and messing with this. Which leads to my question: do I ask for the price that I charge for ACEOs now? Or what I charged then? Generally when dealing with commissioners, if four years had elapsed between getting a price quote, they'd be required to stick to the new, more current pricing. Is it fair to do this with a trade gone bad, as well?

Hello! I'd like to share a story. Hopefully I can post it here though!
The Story )
WHO: X1XpachiaX1X

WHAT: Accepted an Art Trade with me on deviantART and still hasn't done their part

THE STORY:

So one day on deviantART I got a note asking for a request or an art trade on March 12th, 2014. I told her that I don't do requests but at that time Monochromatic Headshots (which I recently finished hers because she also requested one) and so we agreed on an art trade.I finished her part the next day, May 13th. (It's right here) She thanked me and said that her part was almost finished.

I waited for a month before I noted her about the Art Trade because I knew there was still school going on. I thought that she had forgotten about it, but it turns out that she hadn't and her excuse was that she moved in with her mom and she wanted to redraw a lot of things, which I accepted. I didn't think about being scammed then.

About another month passed when I noted her again to check up on her. I received no response and thought that she was busy, but I was starting to lose my patience with her.

A few days ago I commented publicly on her profile and she still hasn't responded to me about the art trade, whereas right now I am losing my patience greatly.

I'm probably going to give her another week to finish, and if she doesn't then I will take down her part of the art trade until she finishes my part. I'm trying to be as patient as I can, but soon it will be 3 months since we proposed the art trade.

I did an art trade with a user a while back, everything went a-okay. Both parts are completed. I check FA today and see a 'Prepose' flat rate sale and see something wrong.

It was the trade they did for me.

When I did the trade, they showed me two sketches to pick from, I chose sketch A. The user is now selling off BOTH sketches, including the one I chose, as prepose commissions. They said it was okay because they are not using my character. I told them I felt ripped off, because I expected an original piece, and provided one, and now there will be mass copies made of mine (multiple people can purchase the sketches).

They haven't replied yet, but I'm wondering if it's okay for them to do this because it's a trade, or if I'm right to be upset and feel ripped off?
And if the latter, should I pose a beware?

EDIT 10/30: the keyblade arrived, and I was able to get a Skype of the feet progress. Communication is really terrible though, and hard to stay in contact trying o know how my feet and tail are coming along. I would love future tips about trading physical items, as I really do not appreciate added stress when contact suddenly is dropped for a period of time or no proof of sending and such.

More advice posts from me!

Anyhow, I wanted to get some space in my room, so  offered up my Pakko Head and Tail for Sale or Trade.

So someone wanted a trade, and we agreed and such.

I agreed for a keyblade, feet base, a tail, and some fur.
Keyblade was to be sent right away, and when she told me it was sent, I sent out pakko.

Here's where it gets me into a very unhappy camper mood.
I sent pakko with the 2-5 day shipping with tracking, as that's the average mailing for a product that's bought on commission / trade / premade / whatever.

I'm happy I had tracking or I never would have known it arrived in 2 days, I had checked 4 days after I mailed it.
She made no notification to me that she received it, even after we agreed to tell when something arrived. I've sent her notes requesting WIP photos (which she said she would give me, and that she was making good progress), and for more information on the Shipping of the keyblade. All she told me was "It will arrive in a week" in which a week has passed. I've currently asked for information of the shipping time that was purchased, if there's tracking etc. So far she HAS read the notes (This is why I love DA note system) but has not replied.

I'm a VERY unhappy camper. I have absolutely nothing, and I had been kind enough to send pakko at her request so it would arrive in time for Halloween. Nothing has arrived on my side, I have no Idea about the shipping or any WIP. As what i learned (When i asked about having to sign when it arrived) apparently her Mom shipped it out and she knows NOTHING about the shipping other than "It should be there in a week"

I doubt I'd do a trade again, with having absolutely no information or product from the other side, and currently feeling completely ripped off by a person who doesn't care now they have the product.
I had decided to trust her as she sells fursuit parts herself, but Now I'm just very unhappy and have no Idea what to do. BC

WHAT: Agreed to an art trade with ShySiren, my half was completed rather quickly. I was shown a rough sketch of her half, but fastforward six months later, and I haven't seen any progress. My initial attempts to contact her had been met with her 'being busy', and my more recent attempts have been ignored outright.

WHEN: Not exactly sure the exact time and date of our trade agreement, but I can only guess a week or so before I posted my end of the trade.

PROOF: I fall short of having the original notes sent during the trade agreement we made six months ago, but her comment on my end of the trade should suffice.

EXPLAIN: Six months ago we agreed on an art trade. I promptly finished, and it can be found here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/7005267/. Unfortunately, any notes we shared before the trade happened were deleted (as FA was hacked a few months later, and I deleted all my notes in light of the site's security flaws). Though, if you look at the comments section of the linked submission, she states "I'm working on your half <3" (here's hoping there is enough proof in that statement). A week or so after I posted my end, she gave me a screenshot of a very rough sketch of her end. Again I haven't heard or seen any progress on it.

I have made several attempts at contacting the artist on FurAffinity. Yet these attempts have been ignored. My most recent note can be seen here: http://img16.imageshack.us/img16/9589/newcanvaspn.png. That note was shown to have been read, but obviously ignored.

Compared to the requests she has been taking, this looks pretty poor. I would have gladly waited longer for something even like some of the requests she's been taking, honestly. I just asked for progress from her, not to rush through her half.

She also made a journal that has left a bad taste in my mouth. It just seems very passive aggressive. It can be seen here: http://my.deviantart.com/messages/#/d53b6cb
And a screengrab: http://i45.tinypic.com/2a95heg.png

This is less about how long she takes one some trades an more about her attitude, I suppose. Forgive me if I seem short of digital breath or anything, I just got back from a convention and am exhausted.

Hi all. I recently took on an art trade in exchange for a ref sheet of my character.

They got someone else to draw my character (since they can't draw themeselves, but wanted art from me), and I will be drawing theirs. I started on my half of the trade today via a LiveStream so the tradee knows good and well I'm doing my half. Their half of the trade was completed quickly so no worries there.

Well, also today, I found out that this person has a really bad history of being incredibly rude and demanding and selfish to other artists. Some people on Nabyn noted me and told me this and that I should stay well away from this person. This person has also gotten banned on FurAffinity and had created ban-evasion accounts which have been banned too. On their deviantART account, they also cuss out and complain at people who thank them for watches/faves. I don't believe this person is a troll, just incredibly rude.

Example: http://i.imgur.com/7xa5h.png

I also found out that this person is going around telling people they'll put me on here just because they think I was "avoiding them" for the last two days (when in reality I have been busy and not much in a IMing mood). They have also been going around saying I was a "con artist" and that I'm not planning on drawing them anything. The person claims I am his friend (I have only know this person for a few days!) so maybe if I block this person, they'll try to use the "I thought you were my friend" excuse. They are also a liar, claiming I said things when I did not.

Unfortunately, I didn't know this at the time I accepted his offer, otherwise I would have told them no.

What should I do? Should I finish the trade, and just remove him and block them? Or should I post them here? My friend also told me that he had a really awful experience with that guy as well and he wouldn't mind coming here and telling his half of the story. I have screenshots of the evidence proving that this person is disrespectful to artists and some chat logs.

EDIT: This guy is starting to make block evade accounts and note me and is making call out journals on these accounts. He is also IMing my friend and attacking her as well.
